How to Achieve Ketosis Fast and Confirm It for those on the keto diet #lazyketodiet #ketodietHow to Achieve Ketosis Fast

Upon learning how easy and fast a ketogenic diet plan works, you may be wondering how to get your body into ketosis quickly?

Achieve Ketosis Fast

First let’s cover what Ketosis is. When you eat less carbs, the body has less carbs to burn and starts to burn fat instead, since you are depleting it from the body’s stores. In this state, it is called ketosis, and your body is creating ketones. The ketones are created in the liver from fat, the body and brain then uses that fat as fuel. Therefore, when you are burning ketones/fat, you are in the state of ketosis.

So by now you have probably read enough about eating a ketogenic diet, and know that you will be eating a low carb and a high fat diet.

Foods to Avoid to get into Ketosis Quick

There are also foods high in carbs that you need to avoid (some listed are redundant):

A food and nutrition calculator, like the superb one (shown above) with the most features, is a great way to go when wanting to achieve ketosis fast. It easily and quickly calculates calories, carbohydrates, fiber, sodium, potassium, magnesium, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, calcium, protein, vitamin K. It’s also the only scale on the market to work with USDA Nutrition Facts labels!

So, How to get your Body into Ketosis Quickly?

By avoiding the food listed above and keeping your carb count below 50 grams a day for a moderate low carb diet, or below 20 carbs a day for the full keto diet. By doing so, you may find yourself in ketosis within a week, sometimes less, sometimes more. I have have a couple of followers report to me that just after one day full keto and avoiding high carbs, they were in ketosis.

In the beginning, as you start to burn extra ketones, and achieve ketosis fast, a product called Keto Strips, or Keto Stix, can detect when you reach the state of ketosis. Consuming too many carbs in a day doesn’t always kick you out of ketosis, but can. You can use the urine sticks shown here to test this.

I used Nurse Hatty Keto Stix, because, well for one she is a nurse, and secondly, if you look at the other great products she has to offer, you can tell her passion and I love people with passion to help others.

Her keto strips are shown here in this post. They are simple to use. Pee in a cup, stick a stix in the cup wait a few seconds for it to change color. Any color changes is a sign of ketosis.

Other Ways to Detect Ketosis

However, once you have been in a state of ketosis for awhile your body will become more efficient at creating the ketones which fuel your body.  Therefore you will not produce ketones in the same manner, and the strips may show a false negative and show you are NOT in a state of ketosis – even if you are. As well, for some people, the stix just don’t work for them at all. Luckily there are more accurate methods we can use, even though more costly.

Ketone Breath Ketone Analyzer

A ketone analyzer, also known a breath ketone meter, although more expensive than keto stix, is the most economical way to check ketones, especially since it can be used over and over again.

There are not many out there on the market, but this breath ketone monitor is the easiest to find & most popular.

All you need to do to use it is to connect it to a USB and blow in it. It measures acetate in your breath and gives indication of your ketone levels.

While breath meters are much more accurate than keto stix, the range of ketone level results put up against a blood ketone meter vary, however blood ketone meters, require you to draw blood and constantly buy expensive testing strips. Read on for more info on those.

A ketone blood analyzer is just like it sounds; you will need to use your blood to get your ketone readings. If you can prick your finger, you can do this!

Ketone blood analyzers are the most accurate and precise way to measure your level of ketosis.  The only drawback to these is the cost of the blood strips, they are usually about $1-$2 a piece, which if you are testing daily, can become quiet expensive. **The Blood Ketone Testing Kit shown here, comes with 10 free test strips.

Due to their accuracy, and if you are doing a strict keto diet, they can be very motivational and informative on your ketogenic diet journey.

What Reading are you looking for using a Ketone Blood Analyzer?

Typically if you get a reading below 0.5 mllimole , you are NOT in ketosis.

Lighter readings show you are on the right track and that you might need to adjust your carb intake, or take a closer look at what and how you are eating.

Deeper readings show you are where you want to be.

Here’s the rule of thumb:

  • Light Ketosis: 0.5 – 0.8 mllimole
  • Medium Ketosis: 0.9 – 1.4 mllimole
  • Deep Ketosis (lose weight at optimum): 1.5 – 3.0 mllimole

There you have it, signs, symptoms and ways to detect and verify a state of ketosis.
